The Easiest Way to Keep Baby Flu-Free

Cuddle weather is upon us! I love the cold. Grey skies and wet days are the perfect conditions for my productivity. I thrive when the sweaters come out. Unfortunately, the little ones begin to get a little sniffly around this time and a baby with a flu is a recipe for a hectic weekend. A friend of mine told me that when her son started school he was at the doctor’s every other week with some kind of flu. It was horrible. When they start school, they pick up all sorts of things and a flu is the easiest and most common to catch. This went on for a while until one day, her sister let her in on a super easy fix that I now use religiously.

An apple a day may keep the doctor away but it’s one orange that will keep your little one sniffle free. I do this with my baby and the basic rule of thumb is to have them drink the juice of one orange a day. It has to be freshly squeezed and no additives. This means no sugar. You can dial back the taste of a sharp orange with a little water but don’t add sugar. We have a pretty handy electric squeezer but you can use the manual ones or even just the strength you have in ya! You can opt for cup and spoon method, a sippy cup or just a bottle. All that matters is you get that goodness in the child.

Even though they tend to be ¬†more expensive, I use imported oranges because they’re available all year round. (Tip: I’ve found that per kilo, they are cheaper at Carrefour than Nakumatt). They also tend to be more consistent with the juice they produce. That said, there’s nothing wrong with using local oranges if you can get your hands on some great produce.

So as the weather turns chilly, help your little one’s immune system out with just an orange a day!
